This number is on my mind
Hey friends,
Did you know that something like 80% of single moms don't go to church? It's got a lot to do with time and schedule, but also with the support and inclusivity they feel inside church walls. So many church programs are designed for married couples and traditional families, but shouldn't the Church be prioritizing the most vulnerable? I think so -- but it's especially hard right now. I can only imagine the strain and stress single parents feel now, with so many juggling virtual learning with working full-time. If there was ever a moment when things felt unmanageable, it would be now. Maybe you are single parent and get the strain in a way I never could.
If you are able to help, I encourage you to chat with your church leadership team to identify the single parents or other families are having particular struggles and find ways to support them -- especially those you've haven't seen or heard from in quite some time. Usually, when people get quiet it can be because they are feeling desperate, unseen or helpless. Just because someone isn't expressing their frustrations on social media doesn't mean they aren't hurting. Seek them out!
I saw this meme yesterday and I think may of us can relate:

Worth Your Time Podcast
Eating disorder recovery is a subject that is close to my heart, given my past experience with it. Christie Dondero Bettwy is the Executive Director of Rock Recovery, a Christian organization that helps men and women find freedom from eating disorders for a lifetime.
I’ve been a supporter of Rock Recovery for many years, because I know how important it is to find freedom from an eating disorder. I lived with one for over 10 years and never want anyone to feel like they can’t overcome.
In this conversation, Christie and I talk about our respective journeys, how to get help, how to think about parenting in regards to EDs and the financial burden of treatment (it’s a lot!), which is why organizations like Rock are such and important resource — they have a sliding scale payment system and no one will be turned away.
If you or a loved one are struggling with an eating disorder, you are not alone. There is hope for freedom in the future and I am living proof.
Verse of the Day
"Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love." -- Joel 2:13
